Betws-y-Coed to Llanbedr
Climbed over Capel Curig for the second time. Then up to Ogwen Dam. Saw views of Tryffn and The Gliders. We cycled down the valley and picked up the old railway line to Bangor. Another first for the trip, Eddies first puncture (After my earlier scare). He blamed it on a mountain cyclist cutting him up (He originally thought this might be me but he should have known I was not capable of overtaking him). Only took about twenty minutes to get back on the road. Picked up Sustrans Route 8 from Menai Bridge to Canarefon along the Menai Straits. Another essential stop in Canarefon for tea and cake. (Chocolate & caramelised apple) in front of the castle. Managed to get three cups of tea from one pot. A rare event as normally you would only get two. Then followed the Welsh Mountain railway track and steam engine towards Portmaddock. Eddie again had more problems with other cycle track users (See Day 4). This time tried to play chicken with an oncoming cyclist. He was chastised with the words "Stay on the left" (He took little notice). Stopped for drink at convenient pub right by the side of the track. Took A487 to Portmaddock (Another stop for Ice Cream). Didn't spot dedicated cycle path by side of cob and got more abuse, this time from car users (The road was not really suitable for cars and bikes). Then we went over the Toll Bridge and onto main road to Harlech. Lovely little hill to end the day. Reached Youth Hostel in Llanbedr and had dinner there. They were doing a lot of updating work on the hostel.
