Inverness to Aviemore

Dep. 09:00 Arr. 15:00
Distance 44 miles

With the persistent rain associated with our first Inverness to Borth trip, was very surprised to have fine, sunny and windless conditions. Surely won't last. After making our own breakfast in the hostel set off at 9 o'clock. Eddie and I on our bikes, Dawn in the car, with a plan of sight seeing and college work (very dedicated). Stopped for lunch at Carbridge and spookily so did Dawn. She had tried to find Loch Ness and failed (Mind you it had been a dry summer). She was more successful in locating the Battle of Colloden. We cycled past the Clava Cairns and what was "definitely" the late Queen Mother's house at Moy. I spotted the royal train spotting cabin and where she undoubtedly stopped to catch the bus to stock up on gin and other essentials. We had the first two injuries of the cycled ride. 1) Eddie being stung by a "vicious wasp" on the head and finger 2) myself cracking a rib through laughing so much. Maximum height for the day was 406m at the summit of Slochd. On reaching the Bunkhouse at Aviemore forced to take the funicular railway to the top of Cairngorns. A "bargain" at £8 each. We all shared a room in the bunkhouse, opposite the kitchen (bit noisy). Chippie for tea.
