Llanbedr to Borth (Again)
Woke up, not feeling ill and made the brave decision to "battle severe illness to complete escapade". Drove back to Lanbedr after we were sure I was not going to have a relapse. Had a sandwich and crisps before setting off (Food at last). Cycled on main road to Barmouth but Eddie left at first opportunity for an off road excursion to the Mowdac Estuary. Crossed railways bridge (70p) and had the first heavy showers of rain. (Just think if I hadn't been ill Inverness to Borth could have been completed with practically no rain). As a result bikes became the dirtiest they had been, and our legs. (Mainly due to journeys across sand bunkers, gritty tracks and RSPB Reserve). "Lovely" steep climb out of Dolgethy, not on main road, before coming back down to main road (Kevins advice so apparently not Eddies fault). Continued upwards on A487 before dropping down to Tal y lyn. Met another cyclist with full gear, front and rear panniers and a rucksack (Would not have contemplated I2B if this was required). Met the gang (who had been for a swim) along with Dawns sister Jane in Machynthlth, for the traditional tea and cake. The final leg to Borth was without the characteristic head wind that we encountered 21 years ago. Arrived at youth Hostel (Again) to tremendous applause, streamers from cars and reward of a box of Maltezeers each. Celebratory dinner at Black Lion (Parked in White Lion) in Tal y Bont. Notice up saying kids had to be removed from Pub by 10 (This was a great cause of concern for them). Dejected feeling in rest of pub as Wales had lost 4:0 to Italy in the football (England had won 2:1). A glass of wine back at the hostel.
