Newton Stewart to Dumfries
Dep. 09.15 Arr. 17.00
Distance 62 miles
A colder and windier day with the odd spots of rain but still not what we were expecting. Followed the expert advice from the couple at the B&B who were keen cyclists and followed the A75 toward Cree. A slow climb up to Gatehouse station. Picturesque views of a viaduct and pleasant downhill to Gatehouse of Fleet. Cup of tea (No cake) at Mill Coffee shop. Cycled out to the coast and then back to Kircudbright, via the village of Borgue (No Assimilation), strong headwinds. Met Dawn here for "picnic" lunch (Note to self; send Dawn on picnic course). Excessive undulating route to Dumfries putting Eddies love of the more hilly journeys to the test. Another B&B stop. Far more comfortable than Hostels but cost could prove painful when doing sums at end. Another site seeing day for Dawn visiting lots of castles. Dumfries was very disappointing. Really fancied a Big Mac or such like but none could be found. It seems to be a totally franchise free town. Found the Robert the Bruce pub for Burger and chips.
